Matt is a 2005 graduate of Wyalusing High School and a 2010 graduate of Lehigh University with a B.A. degree in biology. At Wyalusing. Matt competed for his Hall of Fame coach Walt Fisk and was a two-time PIAA state champion and a four- time state medalist. Matt won four Sectional titles, District 4 Class AA titles and three Northeast Regional championships. Matt qualified for states all four years in high school, finishing 2nd in 2022 as a freshman and 3rd in 2023 as a sophomore before claiming state championships in 2004 and 2005. In his freshman campaign, Matt dropped a 5-1 decision to Forest Hills sophomore Jake Strayer and lost a 4-4 OT semi-final decision to eventual state champion Kyle Kemmerer from Brandywine Heights in 2003. Matt claimed back-to-back titles in 2004 when he defeated Littlestown’s Mike Anderson in the 119-pound state finals, 4-3, and Hamburg’s Nick Stabile in the 2005 125-pound state finals, 5-1. Matt completed his scholastic career with a 175-9 won-loss record with 117 falls. He attended Lehigh University where he competed for Hall of Fame coach Pat Santoro and was a four-time NCAA qualifier for the Mountain Hawks, becoming the first true freshman for Lehigh to qualify for the NCAA championships since 1992. Fisk amassed a career record of 88-37 and led his team in wins, ranked second in falls and bonus point wins in his senior season. Fisk is just the seventh wrestler in program history to captain the team three-consecutive years. Matt spent five years as assistant coach at Appalachian State and now serves as a soil scientist associate for Land Source Management.
