Ben Hepburn graduated from Loyalsock Township high school in 1979 and a graduate of Penn State University in 1983 with a teaching degree in Agriculture Sciences. In high school, he was a three-time sectional champion, a two-time Northeast regional champion and a two-time PIAA state qualifier. Hepburn wrestled at Penn State from 1979-1983 where in his senior year, he was the starting Heavyweight for the Nittany Lions, a team that finished 7th in the NCAA Tournament in 1983. He began coaching at Loyalsock in 1984 under Dave Kanaskie and later became head coach for the Lancers in 1985. In 40 years, his teams posted 319 wins and finished in the top 10 in the PIAA Class AA state tournament five times including winning the state team championship in 2004. His teams placed 3rd at states in 1998, 5th in 1996 and 2003 and 8th in 1999. Individually, Ben coached five different Lancer wrestlers to eight state championship, including two-time state champions Tom Waldron (1997, 1998), Chris Fleeger (1998, 2000) and Isaiah Britton (2003, 2004). Additionally, Mike Waldron (1996) and Chris Engler (2003) won state title under Hepburn. In all, Hepburn coached 42 state qualifiers, 30 individual state place winners, 19 Northeast Regional champions and 21 District 4 champions during his coaching tenure at Loyalsock. Hepburn has been employed by the Montoursville Area School District as a teacher for 41 years. Ben served President of the District 4 Coaches Association from 2012-2022 and was a member of the PWCA Board of Directors from 2012-2022. In 2013, he was inducted into the District IV Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame.
